Pros

After 7 years at the company you get 6 weeks PTO, which you can partially roll over. They also provide excellent retirement match. Healthcare coverage was outstanding (as long as you choose EPO and not high deductible plan). I've made some great friends there, but the work culture died shortly after I got there.

Cons

Management was by far the worst aspect of this company. It's the definition of dysfunctional. The president removed term limits so he can serve as long as he chooses. The nepotism there has run rampant and they have virtually no HR department (as of 2019 at least, though the trend had been going for about 5 years or so). As long as you keep your head down, do your work, and don't expect any real work culture change, you'll do fine.

Pros

- Strong connections to Cornell University - Interesting mix of guest speakers, symposiums, and presentations - BTI has strong partnerships with international organizations and PIs

Cons

- Internal culture lacks positivity and sense of community - Long term, there's little room for career growth - Very difficult work dynamic amongst staff due to internal politics and bureaucracy - Toxic elitism amongst some staff

Pros

There is free coffee and often food after events

Cons

Pay is barely a living wage (even with masters degree and years of relative experiment). I would estimate that pay is about 25k below market rate for a technician. I also heard they took away raises during covid. Meanwhile president makes more than 10x technician rate.
