Pros

The kids are amazing. It is undeniable that there are vast opportunities for progression here but there is a clear and obvious reason why.

Cons

I would suggest that I start with sick/bereavement pay but, despite making a point of it existing within Brampton, it seems like it does not matter how many reviews exist on here or complaints they face, it is not something that is going to change. I will add (something not mentioned in many) that during the COVID19 pandemic staff members were coming into work with COVID because the government said it was no longer mandatory to isolate- which Brampton took as you are fine if you get COVID so come in. Staff are not the only ones struggling here. Female students face shaming for their skirt length from several senior members of staff with many students raising their discomfort about their objectification with various staff. Instead of reflecting and suggesting that female members of staff address the young students with the issue, they are met with ‘accept it’. Students are told to control their periods when they have leaked and are denied the chance to go home to change (yet if they do not have a blazer, they miss their education to collect it from home). Need I say more. Back to members of staff, the deadlines are given with 3 days warning, the SEN department is highly underfunded leaving TAs and classroom teachers overworked, staff are patronised in front of the students while others are given promotions to bribe them to stay and based on nepotism. Staff often have to teach other subjects because of the quick turn over and the timetable will change every half term because of this. Lastly, the NEU finally has representation within the school but I personally am amazed and impressed that they have lasted. They have been shamed and degraded within staff briefings and huge violations of GDPR have taken place. I cannot even begin to describe how passionately I encourage everyone, particularly ECTs who are vulnerable and will be bullied and moulded into believing this is normal, to avoid this school.

Pros

parking is decent - shame staff dont know how to drive - more damages to my car in this carpark than anywhere else

Cons

everything if you don't succumb to the tyranny of the SLT and management you are going o be pushed and bullied out. your department leads dont support you, they never have your back, They do what they need to do keep their role and position - there is no one in your corner. they dont like staff being friends and being human, god forbid you make a safe space in your classroom for your students you are not allowed to share any part of yourself that isn't militant teaching. they will make your life a living hell until you leave or until they force you to leave. they will degrade you, make you feel lesser than a person, its so common for people to cry and have mental breakdowns here its become a normal part of many peoples day to either witness their colleagues going through it or experience it themselves. they created a fear mongering culture. they have CCTV in every classroom which they claim is for 'safety' but SLT go and look through and watch footage for fun and then students are getting in trouble constantly for things they may say about other staff. they may have good grades at the end of it all in sixth form but at what cost? look at the turnover rate - 40% last summer - some departments lost over half of their experienced staff - many resigned without roles. wellbeing of staff is not considered in any way shape or form - they have no empathy or remorse for people who may go through life changing experiences, bereavement or long term medical issues - you just become a liability and next on their hit list. back to work return meetings are just there to make the person feel worse about why they may have had time off almost in an attempt to scare them or wear them down into not taking time off again. the departments have no cohesion a lot of the time and people are not allowed to speak about anything without fear of it being used against them

An Orwellian Nightmare - CCTV EVERYWHERE!

Pros

Staff carpark - that’s all I can think of!

Cons

CCTV in every classroom so you are under scrutiny all the time. Approximately 40% of the teaching staff left Brampton Manor Academy in the Summer of 2024 (the national average is 13% annual turnover in a school). I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions. If you are off sick they refuse to pay you unless you have a doctors certificate. Bereavement leave is very harsh too - don’t expect 2 weeks for the death of a close loved one. Unqualified medical advice on back to work interviews. SLT are unpleasant bullies. Daily (unnecessary) briefings from the head which are more like sermons (he is a lay preacher in his local church on Sundays). Teaching staff are subjected to a 1970’s style fear culture. Staff voice is non-existent (there are no NEU reps in this school anymore and the head point blank refused to meet with the previous incumbents. Top down management all the way). A Level class sizes are massive - 30+ per group. The Sixth form building is too small for the number of students - it’s like a rugby scrum in the corridors during lesson change overs. No Xmas or Summer party, no pub on a Friday - no social element whatsoever. Zero work/life balance. Just like the Rihanna song - it’s “work, work, work…” If you are thinking of applying here then I recommend that you read through all the reviews on here first!
