Pros

They are renovating and making the first floor and front of the hospital nicer. There are many caring individuals who work here and who really want to give excellent care.

Cons

The new CEO has made everyone afraid of losing their jobs. They care more about the bottom line $$$ than the patient. They would rather put money into extravagant things like a fountain in the front of the building and not into staffing or upgrading the patient rooms. The rooms are too small and very old. The heat doesn't always work well and in many rooms you can't get hot water!!! They make the staff work at such break-neck speed that they can hardly think straight some days. They keep adding task after task for the nurses to do, but are not really concerned how you will accomplish this. So many employees, especially nurses, don't get to take a break or go to lunch. They also seem to tolerate a climate where nurse managers bully their staff and play favorites. It contributes to an atmosphere of people who are back stabbing. Not a good work environment. They are now instituting a policy where you can't be sick for fear of getting fired. You have sick time but are afraid to use any of it. This will be very discriminatory to young women especially, who might not be able to get a babysitter for a sick child. It will also make employees just come to work being sick so they don't risk their job!!! These are just a few examples.

Pros

Great benefits being part of Yale New Haven Health. Management is visible and honest. Mr. Jennings sends out emails to everyone on holidays, and when there are critical matters at hand. This is a nice touch, and much appreciated. It's not always good news, but it's honest.

Cons

None I can tell you that are a big deal. Promotions are hard because so few people ever leave. In some places this could be a drawback, but I get why they stay. Several key leaders left for a while, and then came back. But I guess that's a compliment in the end.

Pros

Bridgeport Hospital is a great place to work. It has transformed itself over the last few years. Facilities are upgraded, patient safety and quality is strong, employee, patient and physician satisfaction is high, school of nursing is becoming a four year bachelors program, management is accessible and really cares. Bill Jennings is a great CEO. He listens and cares, and is visible to the staff. The hospital is strong financially. As part of Yale New Haven Health System, it is a great place to work.

Cons

Health care is a very complex field. Many changes and new regulations all the time. Constant change is the new normal. But it is also fulfilling because we save people's lives.
