Pros

- Worked with some really nice people. - Free parking - Free drinks

Cons

Although I left few years back, it's a shame to see new and recent reviews that share the same issues I had back then. I would be lying if I said that my time here was a good experience and the fact that the majority of negative reviews all share similarities isn't a coincidence. I have countless stories of poor professionalism from senior members of staff. Examples include... - Arriving in the morning to find my monitor taken from my desk by a manager because "he wanted a better one" leaving me to scramble to find something to work on. - Being told by a senior member of the sales team that I should "be grateful" to him because he's "keeping me in a job". - Witnessing a team leader belittle another team member in front of the rest of team, as if it acceptable behaviour. These are just a few examples, but these 3 examples were from 3 different individuals. All 3 individuals saw promotions during my time with my company and according to LinkedIn are still with the company. While working for BYM there was a feeling that there was an inner circle within the company that received special treatment and the rest were always replaceable and this is ultimately the core issue. When you combine issues like this with an unrealistic workload and the constant changes in direction and structure (I personally had 5 different managers in the span of 18 months), the high turnover in staff is to be expected. I expressed my concerns to my own manager numerous times, some of these concerns were laughed off and very few taken seriously. It was only until I was visibly upset and frustrated that I was actually listened to, but very little action on their part followed these conversations. I want to be 100% clear that this review is not me dogpiling on BYM or an attempt to bomb their Glass Door review rating. It's an honest account of my time there which was one of the most stressful of my career and my reluctance to speak up in the past is only due to me being more young and naive about how companies should operate. To put it simply, in my personal experience, BYM's ambition to grow the company far outweighs its empathy for its employees and this issue was far too clear, far too often.

Pros

- Colleagues horizontal in the organisation structure are friendly, intuitive and work well in a team. - An hour lunch break. - Free refrigerated soft drinks.

Cons

- Middle management and the Senior management team are often toxic and deceitful (firing apprentices with no warning, asking employees to fake glass door and Google reviews, bullying low-level colleagues, offering false promises of promotion or salary increase). - Salary is poor, lower than the industry standard offered for any other role available in the area. - Staff turnover is high - those who are not management are unlikely to stay for longer than a year. This is a result of an “everyone is replaceable” attitude, a mantra which is often said to employees. - Nepotism is rife in the company, CEO family members are paid excessively more than their colleagues in the same role. Senior Management Team relations are elevated to management positions when clearly unqualified. - The product is faulty and old, and employees are often asked to deceive clients to the truth of this - an unfortunate result of being part of the toxic atmosphere is a slow detriment to your integrity.

Great for 'entrepreneurs', bad for pay

Pros

- There are a lot of challenges that the company needs to address and resolve but the people are brilliant - the highs can match the lows - High attrition means that progression can be very quick - Able to develop a range of transferable skills, which benefits entry level applicants

Cons

- Salary is not competitive with unfair pay scales across the business, often these are hidden and management actively tries to stop people from discussing it - Workload is heavy to the point where overtime is no longer optional and burnout can last for months - Whilst I did not experience this first hand, I've seen many colleagues and friends pushed out of the company or get passed over for promotions due to personal reasons rather than their performance or capabilities - A big blame culture with departments trying to shift the fault when something goes wrong, also seen when people are blamed for not being a 'fit' to the company rather than acknowledging there could be some truth to the items they raise
