    Brightside Response

    July 6, 2020Talent & Resource Lead

We are really sorry to hear that your experience has not felt great at Brightside and this was certainly not our intention. Particularly, as we pride ourselves on being a great place to work for all of our employees. Unfortunately, the Covid situation has had a detrimental impact on certain roles in our business. In particular, we were faced with having to operate and adapt to a fundamentally different physical working environment as part of our business continuity plan. Fortunately, we were able to maintain service and retain around 90% of our employees in virtual employment. Sadly, there were a very small number of roles that we were unable to operate virtually due to the nature of the role and it was for this reason that we had no alternative but to use the Furlough scheme. This was done largely to protect jobs and to ensure that we could continue to pay those individuals for as long as possible. We also made the decision to pay a 20% top up to the Furlough scheme so that our employees could maintain 100% of earnings for as long as possible.

    Pros

New leadership team bringing a more structured and smarter way of working. Good location, free parking and decent staff benefits.

    Cons

Not much in way of career progression opportunities. Salaries could be more generous especially for those at the lower end of the scale.

I have been working at Brightside full-time for less than a year

    Pros

HR team is great, especially Richie. Trainers are very good and engaging, Beth is particularly helpful and entertaining! Exec team seem very nice and approachable. Parking onsite (most weeks). Work only 1 Saturday shift in 4.

    Cons

Parking offsite (1 in 7 weeks). Would like to see employee private medical insurance offered as well as other protection insurances such as critical illness and income protection for employees to choose to purchase through salary sacrifice or monthly contribution.

I have been working at Brightside full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Brightside is a great place to work with lots of opportunities for career development if you want them. It's a friendly and lively environment and we are rewarded for a job well done. We get additional benefits such as a day off for our birthday, excellent Christmas and Summer parties and a health cash plan.

    Cons

I feel that the company could move into more flexible working options and working from home options where possible (non customer facing roles) to improve the work life balance of employees.

I worked at Brightside part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Very positive steps being taken to improve employee and customer experience - Good benefits - Good work life balance

    Cons

    - Worked here for five years (3yrs full time, 2yrs part) there has probably been just as many CEOs all promising to make a difference but never actually acting upon their words. As mentioned above though, the current CEO Brendan is actually taking steps - the necessary ones - to turn it around, as are the senior management team. Hopefully better things on the horizon. - Not many career progression opportunities, just senior or team leader roles - Salary structure - people who have been there for 5yrs are still on the starting salary
