Great people, low salaries

Pros

The people and the atmosphere make it a great place to work. There is a lot of opportunity to grow if you're willing to work for it.

Cons

The salaries are almost insultingly low. There are zero perks except work travel. They don't give raises, so if you get promoted its your only chance at an increase, and it will be 5k max. Because of this, it's known as a "training ground" - anyone who has the skills to make real money will move on. Also, the senior leadership is a bit out of touch with what's going on, and slow to make real change.

Nice co-workers Lots of promotion within the company, relatively easy to rise in the ranks

Overworked managers incompetent, disorganized, unwilling to hear any criticism or ask for any feedback Very poor compensation (exploitative for junior editorial - constantly lowballing new starters) Very poor management at top of editorial ladder No flexibility around employee welfare No exit interviews No yearly reviews Unpleasant culture overall despite good co-workers - extremely high turnover CEO could care less about employees' job satisfaction. Rarely interacts with employees.
