Ended up in a group with a bad Group Leader that has nothing to do the whole day and micromanages us. Keeps track of when we enter the office, when we take coffee breaks and lunch break, how long we take these breaks and when we leave office. He will bring up timings and question us on what we are doing also because he doubts we are working. Everyone is scared of leaving the office before 6PM because Group Leader makes sarcastic remarks or questions us as to why we're leaving 'early' if he catches us and as a result, everyone stays in office for 10 hours or more daily. Difficult to leave when he is not watching as he walks around the room the entire day until he leaves. Working during weekends is common for some members as the Group Leader believes staying at home or going out during weekends is a waste of time when we could spend that time working. Seniors and Team Leads are very good people but no one stands up to anything unreasonable the Group Leader does, and he has a short temper which has resulted in him shouting at coworkers from time to time because of the smallest reasons. There is no point in having leaves credited to us because everything needs approval and Group Leader does not want to approve leaves and tries to come up with multiple reasons to say no, and when he approves leaves, he has threatened some members to not approve leaves anymore if they fail to complete tasks within deadlines. Assigns unreasonable deadlines, he counts calendar days for completing tasks so he expects we come to office during weekends and assigns deadlines accordingly. Saying anything against this will make him taunt us that we are not working hard enough or not putting in enough hours. We've had many other incidents in the group and I'm wondering why HR hasn't taken any action when they know this is going on. A couple of seniors have left the company because they clash with him and even the juniors are looking for other oppurtunities so that they can leave.
