Pros

In the interest of being fair and objective, the only pro I can think of is "It's a job."

Cons

Inadequate parking. Security leaves a lot to be desired. The pay is NOT competitive. As for job security, it's only there because of the extremely high turnover rate. Nurses simply do not stay at this hospital system. Cutting edge technology? No, not really. There are entirely TOO MANY MIDDLE MANAGEMENT MEMBERS. Promotions are granted on nepotism and cronyism. Positions are made up to promote family members and friends. Unit managers can be vindictive. Unit managers who bullied their staff are rewarded by receiving a promotion. My fingers are too tired to continue. There are many more reasons to stay away from this hospital system.

Pros

Most coworkers, patients, has good reputation because it use to be one of the best systems to get care in the state. Unfortunately, that has changed significantly.

Cons

EMR, Cerner is horrible and unsafe. Nurses and physicians have complained about it but CAMC doesn't care. Not to mention that they purchased the cheapest version of Cerner so they could keep more money in their pockets. New RN's are not oriented correctly. Therefore, they are not safe because they have no critical thinking skills. CAMC doesn't give it a second thought. They just want a warm body that is a "yes" person who agrees to do whatever they want to make sure the package is wrapped up pretty. While what is on the inside is sub par, unsafe, non empathetic, greedy system.

Pros

Decent training, they keep you certified and provide regular training. My unit was some what new, it was kept well stocked and the equipment was in good working order. I was put on nights but I regularly got 5-7 days off in a row (I had to work 5 or 6 in a row to get that)

Cons

They are cheap, penny pinchers. They give you 4 hours over time, then turn right around and send you home 4 hours early tommorrow to eliminate your OT. I think the managers get bonused on eliminating overtime so they prevent you from having it at all costs. Yet they will hire 5 travelers and pay them 45-55 an hour all day long. My unit was 50% travelers probably. They used shift differentials as an incentive to work nights. Most new employees start on nights. So you basically make 5 more dollars to work nights, but its screwed up necause it can take a couple years to get the senority for a day shift spot, but you end up going back to new hire salary because the shift differial is gone.
