Pros

Other employees were good to work with and people were friendly. Salary offer was in-line with other similar companies.

Cons

Worked at CANA for just under 5 weeks after quitting my previous position and relocating to Calgary to work in their Energy division. The hiring manager was very optimistic about expansion, and they were in the process of hiring for many other positions. I spoke to a previous coworker that recently quit from a senior position in a different division (construction) who advised me to stay away since the old CEO (who was well respected) had retired, and there was a new CEO (son of the old CEO) who was generally viewed as incompetent who was driving the company into the ground. I checked into this with people I knew working at the division I would be working at, and they said the new CEO was generally viewed as a spoiled rich kid with no management skills who was born into the company with a golden spoon in his mouth. However, I was also told he had little to no involvement in the Energy division, and was unlikely to make any changes to Energy so it was nothing to worry about. Fast forward a few weeks and now I have an offer on a house in Calgary, relocated my whole family, and the whole division I worked for has been shut down. It is mind boggling to me that a company could go from "rapidly expanding" as I was told, and not know that in a few weeks the job I was hired for didn't exist. Most big companies plan months and years ahead. There was even people hired to CANA that got laid off the same week they started.

Pros

Beautiful new head office Decent salary, with good bonus plan On site fitness facility and free employee parking Some good people, some not so good.

Cons

Benefits plan is marginal There is NO communication from the top down about anything. Policies get introduced, but not communicated to staff until an issue arises. HR department is nothing more than a bunch of clerical yes-people.
