You get go do meaningful work with an underserved population. Nothing else.
Cons
Disrespectful pay compared to other immigration non profits that pay their legal assistants more. Many of the young latina lawyers have a superiority complex and treat latina/o legal assistants with very little respect. They will down talk you and micromanage you. No tools for success and very little preparation for cases. Supervising and managing attorneys stick together and do not support lower staff if it involves one of their friends. Organizations like CARECEN weaponize employees dedication to immigrant rights and make them work for crumbs.
