Working Hard To Break Even

Pros

I met so many amazing women. Some as clients and others as fellow stylists. Amazing product!

Cons

The "business opportunity" and the startup expenses are misleading. It is amazing how much it costs to be a stylist. I started this business because I loved the clothes was great at styling people and I wanted to make friends. And I thought I could make some money. My enthusiasm lasted for about 5 or 6 seasons. I built a small team and was thinking thinking my hard, hard work would finally pay off. What happened is I became exhausted keeping everyone pumped up and continuing to keep my customers cared for like cabi espouses. I lasted 4 more seasons and realized that I only made about $20- $25,000 per year if I sold at least $50,000 myself and my team at least sold their minimums. Fortunately for me I didn't need a "real" job but it became discouraging to work so hard and only have a minimum wage salary to show for it. I feel like I was a very good value to the company but did not feel valued.

Pros

Had a lot of autonomy and was able to make significant improvements while I was there so left there with a good feeling of accomplishment. My direct supervisor was very good to me and was the main reason I stayed as long as I did but most of the other employees were very two faced.

Cons

Toxic environment of a lot of back-stabbing women. Management is not open to criticism and runs their business more on feelings than on hard driven data. The CEO is NOT like this and was very data driven. The company has a very archaic way of doing things that can be streamlined and overcomplicates simple things. Also, you can be sitting in numerous meetings for countless hours and everyone will agree on something and then tomorrow, it can all change with no explanation.

Pros

Wonderful product; great management; great training; collaborative culture; heart of cabi foundation; quality women; good business model.

Cons

Management only wants to hear positives -- negatives are frowned upon and turned around to make the stylists feel guilty for expressing them. Truth is - the constructive criticism will help the company to improve further. It is a bit of a sorority -- with different rules for members of the "inner circle." They need consistency. Cabi doesn't reward their middle tiered stylists enough -- even though they are the bulk of the stylists. Top selling stylists should be rewarded with more incentives. They ask their top performers to be part of a "leadership team" -- asking them to do a LOT for the company -- for FREE! No financial compensation for hours and hours of work. It didn't make me want to achieve that level of success - for fear I would be pressured/guilted into working more for free! These obstacles are preventing the company from growing - and growth is what they are desperately seeking.
