I worked at CBH Group for more than a year

    Pros

As a cooperative they are effectively owned by the farmers/growers. They really do care about the growers, and look after thier staff well too. Daily bowls of fruit in the kitchens, free onsite gym at head office, sponsorship of events like City to Surf. Modern offices.

    Cons

Not one of the best payers - but that would be because they are a cooperative. Located just outside the CBD.

    Advice to Management

Be more organised with HR processes

I have been working at CBH Group part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free onsite gym with shower facilities Social club benefits Great manager

    Cons

Major cost cutting exercise over the past 12 months including cutting good staff and getting rid of benefits for staff

    Advice to Management

It used to be a great place to work but has been on a downward slide the past 2 years. Listen to staff feedback and take note of the continually slipping engagement scores

    Negative Outlook

I worked at CBH Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Good food in the cafeteria

    Cons

    - Not a good environment to work in - No value placed on employee engagement. It is regularly measured, found to be abysmal, nothing gets done to address it, and then they measure it again. - Stuck in a cycle of repeated restructuring and continue to make the same mistakes every couple of years. Then the previous executive(s) leaves and the next jumps in to kick off the process again.

    Advice to Management

Hire people on merit, not because they're your mate.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at CBH Group full-time

    Pros

None - other than cafeteria but they are now making them redundant. There were some good people and now are slowly resigning due to massive cost-cutting

    Cons

Too many to count but top few are: 1. Top heavy management - easy to see if you are in linkedin and can map how many managers there are. 2. Company restructures every 3 years; yet asks for engagement scores to be up. This does not make sense as after Year 1 restructure; Year 2 get engagement scores; and year 3, restructure again. Rinse and Repeat 3. Too many contractors - development opportunities are... almost non-existent and hence paying top dollar for contractors, of which some are like $2000 per day, an equivalent of $500K per year (on 250 work days). Some contractors have been there for years!! 4. Incentives are not aligned to staff - it's management vs staff. Management gets bonuses based on how much is cut. This isn't strictly limited to the top. Doing a news search will show.

    Advice to Management

Too many managers presenting powerpoints and strategies, and using external contractors. Why not invest in bottom people; it is actually cheaper! Why do most strategies fail to execute? Failure to invest in the people at the bottom that does the execution!

I worked at CBH Group full-time

    Pros

Working for a Co-Operative and the grain growers of WA Some great people working at CBH and very supportive to each other Pay rates are now very good compared to the external market

    Cons

Culture has deteriorated and staff engagement is suffering due to internal politics and mistrust Academics are favoured over experience and business knowledge

Listen more to employees and rebuild trust and increase engagement levels Hold people accountable for undertaking their core role - this applies to everyone who is paid by CBH
