There is plenty about this job that will challenge a person. There is seldom a bored day, as the jail environment is always full of twists and surprises! The management is fair, competent, and typically stand behind their employees in a difficult environment.
Cons
Jails are run by politicians, and full of law enforcement personnel. This creates a unique work environment that is NOT FOR EVERYONE. There is constant drama, and not just from inmates. This wears a person out over time.
