Pros

One or two genuinely lovely people within the business One or two genuinely great recruiters, Phil and Simon.

Cons

firstly I must stress to anyone reading this that I know this comment will be responded to and denied by Dave Leyshon and his team however these are the facts and had I known them I would never have joined. The CEO, Dave Leyshon, is a vile bully The worst commission structure - they pay you 6% and hold 4% for 3 months and you have to prove you deserve it during your appraisal with your line manager. Not that this matters as Dave Leyshon decides who gets what. You are Therefore judged by a man who isolates himself in an office and takes no interest in anyone's efforts/ dedication/ difficulties Former MD, great guy, was fired within a year as Dave Leyshon simply cannot relinquish power or accept change The office is literally a old tin shed stuck in the middle of a field No atmosphere, you can hear a pin drop on the sales floor They attempt to play 'sales patter' into the office through speakers to give the illusion that people are actually on the phone Incentives? There are none! Why wouldn't you be happy with 6% commission? Dated decor - imagine village community hall toilets with a LOT of tacky orange paint Shares - do not believe any of this. They have been offering this for years and no sale is going to happen. No investor in their right mind would invest in this business which is built on 3/4 clients they have had for circa 20 years. Any offer actually made would be rejected as Dave values the company at 3 times more than anyone would pay! The internal recruiter, Colin, thinks the best selling point is 'free parking' - that sums it up

Having received a ranking of #24 in the 2016 Sunday Times Top 100 for Best Small Companies to work for, which is based on an anonymous survey of our entire staff, we are a little confused with regards to your comments on leadership, rewards and work environment. Moreover, as a senior consultant you enjoyed all the support and an extended guarantee period together with clear suggestions for improvement. However uncomfortable it may for you to accept, it was simply your lack of application which was your undoing. In light of this, we would ask you to reflect on these unfair, defamatory accusations which I hope everyone will see as a cynical attempt to pass the blame. I do believe it is appropriate to respond to at least some of the inaccurate claims given the significant efforts that have been made in creating a multi award winning organisation. Firstly, commission is actually paid up to 20% for Contract business and 30% for Perm. It is correct that we operate a monthly commission and a quarterly bonus scheme and that we also use a behaviours model as part of our reward and promotion schemes. Clearly, when performance is weak then it is only to be expected that minimal commission will be earned. Also you will not qualify for the incentives such as international travel through our Pinnacle Club and the valuable share option scheme. I do understand the disappointment of losing out on these but one must recognise that these are awarded to individuals who have worked hard and performed to a high standard. With reference to our Clients, the Company regularly invoices in excess of 100 separate companies every month but you are correct in that many of our large accounts date back over a decade which is testament to the service we deliver. Concerning the criticism re.office facilities, we have invested heavily in creating a congenial environment which includes an onsite gym, cafeterias and dedicated training facilities within 2 acres of grounds. Why then resort to such petty, immature and unjust insults? Finally, recruitment is a results business and therefore your departure should not be a 'bone' of contention in this case. Good luck.

Pros

There are some lovely people, especially in the admin team, who genuinely care about what they do.

Cons

Firstly it is laughable how whenever a negative review appears on here, a few days later there is a glowing report from someone who couldn't be happier. Often this contains the kind of language that the MD spouts when he writes his own client testimonials so I think we can draw our own conclusions here. The company is in a vicious spiral of decline where terrible leadership gives rise to bad management which leads to the wrong decisions being made and good people being forced out. Commission isn't paid on how much you bill or whether you have done a good job, but what mood the MD is on the day he decides your appraisal score. This is regardless of whether or not he has a clue as to what you have been up to for the last 3 months and is instead based on 'feedback' that he has received from his internal spies with their own axe to grind. As far as I could understand, the company used to have some really good things going for it and the staff used to like working there but this is not what I experienced when I was there. It is a shining example of everything that is bad about a company and to be honest, the place would make a brilliant subject for a fly on the wall documentary. Anyone who is tempted to join this company should seriously consider whether they want to waste 6-18 months of their lives in this place. I have never known such a low level of staff morale, petty politics, internal backstabbing and poor management in any company that I have come across in my career.

I’m afraid this review is little more than a cynical attempt to undermine the company by an unscrupulous operator who left our employment some years ago after we refused to meet his manipulative demands. It would be remiss of us not to address the obvious inaccuracies and misleading accusations that they wish you to believe. Today CBSbutler is posting record profitability and robust sales approacing £50m per annum together with our strongest cash position. Moreover, we totally refute the attempts to rubbish the positive reviews and indeed the client testimonials. This is particularly insulting to our current and former staff who demonstrated the integrity and goodwill which is obviously missing here. I would again bring to your attention the fact that CBSbutler achieved a ranking of #24 in the 2016 Sunday Times Top 100 Best Small Companies to work for, which is based on an anonymous survey of our entire staff by an external independent body. In addition we have retained the same group of Directors and senior managers since the management buyout in 2003. It is fair to say however that on occasion, like others, we have been challenged by the values and ethics of certain managers who were hired from outside the Company. Moreover, It is true that the Company embarked on a period of staff expansion over the prior 18 months which unfortunately led to a dip in our normal high standards of hiring. We also acknowledge that whilst we've had many successes there has been some failures and mistakes - not untypical of any growing business. However, CSBbutler has increased its sales and profitability year in year out – even through recession...fact. Finally, we wish them well in their future endeavours but it is such a shame they resort to such unsavoury tactics.
