Pros

None. Company appears to be fair and makes all the right noises, but is happy to bend the rules to suit themselves.

I worked here for a year and 9 months and was doing well. I applied for a more senior role and was told that first stage interview had gone really well and would hear soon about second stage. Then 2 weeks went by in silence which seemed strange so I asked what was happening. My enquiry was ignored for 2 more weeks, and then I was told someone else had got the job which all seemed very odd… as if someone had put a spanner in the works somewhere. A few months later the company fired me, and when I asked why I was being fired would not tell me why. I didn’t even think that was legal but apparently a company in the UK is allowed to fire an employee with less than 2 years service and doesn’t have to explain why. Interesting that I was about to hit the two year mark. I later discovered that the person who got the role I was in the runnings for was a close friend of the team lead developer and the whole situation started to make more sense. I spoke to my team colleagues after being kicked out and none of them said that they had any concerns about me or my ability to do the job. They were shocked and appalled when they heard that CET were using the “2 year rule” to terminate my employment for no reason. Clearly the reason was one which they didn’t want to divulge or make public. Basically the software team is led by someone shady, who looks after their mates and doesn’t care much about honest working folk trying to do a good job. I was assassinated simply because someone more senior than I wanted to turn the dev team into a boys club. And upper management were not strong enough to oppose or even question the motives behind what was going on… tail wagging the dog. In my opinion, any company that is willing to exercise its right to kick someone out without evidence or explanation, by using this two year rule, is one you can’t trust or feel safe working for. The whole situation left me jobless for months worrying about how I was going to pay the rent and continue to support my wife and children. It traumatised me so much that recently I realised that I feel afraid to speak up in team meeting or disagree with anything my manager has to say, because I haven’t been with my new company for two years and don’t feel secure… which is actually not true because my current company appear to be actually honest and decent and not just on the surface.

Industry Leader: CET is one of the UK's top home emergency networks, providing valuable industry experience

Cons

After dedicating over ten years to a previous company, I eagerly accepted the opportunity to join CET as their new network manager for the North, aiming to contribute to one of the UK's top home emergency networks. However, after completing my six-month probation period, during which I worked diligently seven days a week and was on call 24/7, I was informed via a team video call from the new boss that my services would not be retained. He cited the need to allocate funds for a new hire and, unfortunately, chose to make me redundant. Despite assurances of my commendable performance, I was let go. If you are considering joining CET, be aware that exemplary dedication may not safeguard your position, as you might merely be seen as a statistic.
