Pros

Free chatime drinks and freedom in office

Cons

Directors concerned with maximizing profits, closed door meetings to crisis manage problems. Evident with high staff turnover and constant rotation of external consultants sitting in to fill positions. Current systems in place are a mess, little training was given and I was expected to perform and fix up major problems with their accounts. Staff hired on personality rather than skills and most rarely coming into the office. We are taught how to present information and work our way around franchise partners. Brainstorming sessions were done often to find more ways to bring in additional funds for the business often at the expense of the store owners. Their plan to expand despite not having sufficient systems in place has cause many problems in the office. Preference on signing up new stores and problems are pushed aside. Very stressful place to work.

Pros

One free drink per shift

Cons

The overall environment was extremely stressful. Workers there only spoke in Mandarine and communicated within their group. I was like an alien there and felt like I was there just by myself. The manager was harsh and very hard to talk to. Training was horrible. There was no progress, like tracking of your learning at all. There was only fragmented knowledge of how to make the drinks but before you had an idea what was going on you were already assumed knowing everything and asked to do things. Because of that, I couldn't serve the customers well, couldn't make the drinks well. And lots of time, the manager yelled at me. Work safety was a big issue and this company was just inhuman. A girl got seriously burnt at her forehead at her first day because the manager accidentally spilled hot tea on her! She tried to get compensation to cover her medical treatment but both the store owner and the Chatime's headquarter ignored her request for weeks. This hasn't been fully resolved when I left. The pay rate was below the minimum wage standard. When you had to work overtime, like being too busy, there was no payment covering that. There was also no additional payment for working during weekends and public holiday. When they call you in, you have to come in, regardless you have your own things to do or not. Work-life balance was absolutely impossible.

Most Unprofessional, Abusive, Suffocating Workplace

Pros

Quality teammates, good place to meet people. Learns good time-management skills If you can endure a year of Chatime, you can do anything.

Cons

Imagine working with Gordon Ramsay, but he doesn't do anything Gordon Ramsay does other than swearing and publicly humiliating you. Then combine that thought with Kevin Spacey from Horrible Bosses, that is what Chatime management is. Owner and management prefer if you display gratitude of a job. Management discourages friendly customer service, they just want fast and polite customer service. Conversations are forbidden unless it earns them more money. Fake superannuation accounts, hires you as part-time but without the benefits until fair work is on them. If you ever ask why your rate is part-time despite receiving no benefits, you better have a second job on the side. Expected to do 2-3 person's job because they blessed you with a job so they can abuse you however they like. Definitely expect to work outside your job description. In the end despite all efforts, they will not (strongly refuses) to let other people hire you unless you are personally close to management. They expect you to be like family, but they're the abusive parents and you still need to appreciate them.
