      Great employer, with low mobility

      Pros

Excellent management and HR, problems are addressed immediately. Promotion almost always follows standard meritocratic criteria such that you can understand why people get promoted. Too many benefits and perks to mention.

      Cons

The main con is a big one: upward mobility is severely restricted. It's very hard to get promoted, and when you do the salary increases are minimal. This is an overall awful problem with the Canadian economy, but it's certainly easy to see at CIBC. As much as the people who get promoted, deserve it, it's very hard to get. The second great con, is how routine based all the work is. CIBC avoids creativity and letting employees think for themself. CIBC wants employees to follow strict procedures to the letter. I believe this extends all the way up to the C-suite. Everyone is working like they are on an assembly line. It's a grind.
