Pros

The worst place because they expect so much and often take it personally when you are unable to perform.

Cons

Have to deal with the demands of an aging "manager" that has been probably with the company plus fourteen years and Valero is literally working to death just to pay rent and buy groceries

Pros

Once you know the job functions, expectations, and well staffed, its good. Staffing is the main concern.

Cons

Low cashiers salaries and Assistant managers, no bonus for cashiers, high expectations from cashiers.

Pros

I've been with CST Brands (formerly Valero) since 2001. Although they have merged with other companies in the past It's a great place to start a career if your looking for a Retail Management Position. I feel like my position is secure in this company even as it changes and with the recession we are going through. No degree is required up to the Area Manager Position. Above that they require some college or a degree. They have medical, dental, vision, life ins., 401 savings, sick time, funeral time, paid vacations, 5 paid holidays and bonuses every 4 months. The hours you work are mostly daytime and your usually off on weekends. There are many great people that work at this company and some have been there for many years. They have a great support system.

Cons

You are on call 24/7. If someone doesn't show up on the overnight shift and your Assistant Manager/CSR isn't available then you have to work it. The workload is unrealistic with the amount of hours you allocated. They expect many things to be done in a day with not enough people or time to get it done. The company needs updated register and computer systems in their stores. It takes forever just to transfer a file from one computer to another. I think tenured CSR's should get paid more than they do.
