Pros

Decent benefits, depending on a number of variables (your classification and if you are represented by a bargaining unit) beautiful campus You can contribute to the success of one or more students Certain departments are excellent at working with employees - it is dependent on the Director and the Management of the unit/area and the division the job is associated with.

Cons

1) Significant numbers of people are "jumping ship" recently, leaving huge gaps in the "institutional memory" as well as fewer people to carry on the university's business. 2) The Administration is more interested in hiring additional administrators/managers than filling the gaps of "worker bees" who have jumped ship - meaning more and more added to the plates of the folks left behind with little or no acknowledgement or even a pay increase to mitigate the situation. 3) Active blocking by the administration regarding departmental requests to raise staffing levels in parity with the increased number of students being admitted or to backfill vacancies (refer back to point #2!) 4) Getting a raise here is seriously challenging. Over the last 10 years the employees have had to deal with furloughs (pay cuts) no cost of living increases, and contentious bargaining meetings - when trying to get minimal increases in wages. (refer back to #2!!!) 5) President refuses to acknowledge or address the ineffectiveness of a number of the administrators under him - allowing for behavior that is shocking, inconsistent management, non-uniform application of procedures, and seemingly less than well-reasoned decisions that create an environment where "crap rolls down hill" and results in a rather "crappy" work environment as well as "crappy" circumstances for the students.

a lack of leadership; inconsistent standards across departments; personnel decisions driven by pettiness and other non-work related considerations
