Pros

Fellow coworkers work awesome. The pay was decent too.

Cons

If you have a security clearance and are looking for a good reputable company to establish yourself, I recommend staying far away from this company. I started working for this company with high hopes. I was about a month in when I received news the company's Security Officer had made a mistake with my paper work and because of it my clearance was out of jurisdiction. I was assured by the Vice President at the time all would be OK and the company would cover me seeing how it was their mistake. That lasted all but 3 months as I soon received a call from the company's President himself pretty much just telling me my pay would stop because my clearance was taking to long. Imagine the feeling of not being able to search for a new career because your previous company screwed up your clearance paper work. When my clearance issue was finally resolved I was told I would be laid off because they didn't know my clearance would take that long to be fixed and they had hired someone new. Luckily I had left my previous company in good terms and secured by old job back.

Pros

The work, customers, and some co- workers.

Cons

As an employee, I regularly witness Calhoun managers harassing and targeting any employee that doesn't fall in line. I've seen multiple people harassed into quitting and counseled over nothing, like dress code violations and talking to employees from other companies, out of spite and retaliation. I will never say a word, because I'm afraid of losing my job. I recently witnessed a great, well- respected analyst terminated based on the "at will employment" clause, because the analyst defended co- workers against harassment and inappropriate behavior. The government customer was shocked and we were all disgusted by the CEO and site managers' actions. They promised me a promotion as positions became available, but it hasn't happened. They play favorites and are often very toxic. Program management is incompetent and has no idea how to run a program. Unless you're single and not dependent on a salary to raise a family, DO NOT ACCEPT A JOB FROM THIS COMPANY. The reviews are true. They play favorites, they are immature, they will never admit wrong doing, and they offer horrible benefits, like 700 dollars for JUST health insurance.

Pros

You can tell the company truly cares about its employees. Having had bad experiences with other government contractors, Calhoun does a great job with communication and employee assistance. Despite the time difference, the senior leadership is always available with an open door policy, and always willing to work with employees on issues. Senior leadership is straight-forward and doesn't play games with negotiations or hidden agendas, and looks out for employee welfare. All PTO is given on the first day of the year and you can use it at your convenience without penalty. Also, the company takes time to do site visits, despite the distance from Corporate headquarters, allowing contractors to meet the people they work for. Not only these things, but the company is willing to stick up for contractors when there are issues with the customer, and sort out mutually beneficial solutions for everyone when required. Insurance, 401k, and other benefits are also comparable to industry standard. Honestly, Calhoun is one of the better contracting companies on the market and I am quite thankful to work here.

Cons

-Health insurance is pretty expensive compared to other companies, but Dental and Vision are priced well. -Only get paid once a month (this is neutral since some people enjoy the flexibility this pay schedule provides. However it is inconvenient if you aren't used to it, or have poor spending/financial habits).
