Pros

Compensation, profit sharing, medical and 401K plan

Cons

Political environment. If you didn't belong to a clique you didn't get anywhere within the company. Some upper management, especially in the tubular products mill, felt threatened by more knowledgeable employees. Management stated that they support employee ideas for improvement but if you were not liked by management then the ideas never got anywhere. Management to head strong and don't value employee ideas.

Pros

Great pay and benefits FOR CSI Employees, company takes care of there own. Great for learning new skills

Cons

Rotating schedule, work weekends & holidays.... REALLY hard to get hired on from Adecco temp agency. Expect to be a temp for over a year or more while at the same time cut if the economy takes a dive. $15 flat rate whether rotating grave, swing or days. CSI has for some years now depended on temporary employees staffed from Adecco to do most jobs that are considered grade 3's while focusing on hiring electricians & maintence workers from outside. I have seen maybe 3-5 job hires for operations posted in my year here and a hiring freeze in my last year before we were cut temporarily. I came back expecting to get hired on right away as was told but soon found that misleading, only wanted the experienced temps back so as to not hire new ones they had to train from the ground up. Most mills run really lean and if your relief calls off your doing a double shift regardless of plans or exhaustion. They make you waive breaks and lunches before you enter the mills and if you don't sign waiver they don't hire you, meals are to be eaten whenever you find time. Everyone enters the mills hopeful to get hired on soon but upon a few weeks they really regret it when they hear how long it takes and how much work there putting in for profits they'll never share or benefits they won't see. In short Adecco cheap labor to keep CSI profitable.

Used To Be A Good Place To Work

Pros

Competitive benefits package. Small to medium sized company. Some individual employees are good to work with. Company has not experienced layoffs in its history.

Cons

Rampant nepotism and cronyism, the only way to get ahead is to know / be related to the right people. Not related? Not socially connected to management? Be prepared to never advance at this company. Management is completely disconnected from the actual work in the mill. Many requests regarding safety or production are completely nonsensical and demonstrate a serious lack of understanding of what the job actually requires. Attempts to bring these issues up with management are dismissed immediately and without any consideration. During times of economic difficulty, CSI will dramatically increase its policing of various rules and regulations to reduce the workforce. This has been especially evident during the last downturn in the economy. They would much rather fire you for something trivial than admit defeat and lay people off. This unwritten policy significantly contributes to the stress of this job.
