Pros

Working at CEDC is an incredibly rewarding experience, offering a unique opportunity to witness profound transformations and provide life-changing support. The deeply collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment allows staff to learn from diverse perspectives, working together to address the complex medical, psychological, and nutritional needs of patients. It is a privilege to build supportive relationships with patients and hold hope for them even when they cannot hold it for themselves. Staff helps clients celebrate every small step forward on their journey toward healing and recovery. The work is challenging and emotionally demanding, but the chance to empower individuals to reclaim their lives and build a healthier relationship with their mind and body makes it a career of immense purpose and fulfillment.

Cons

We witness profound distress and pain as patients confront their illness. Constant exposure to suffering can lead to emotional exhaustion, and compassion fatigue. Many individuals with eating disorders are ambivalent about recovery. This can manifest as resistance or a lack of motivation, which can be frustrating and emotionally draining for staff who are invested in the patient's healing. There is a constant, underlying worry about a patient's health and potential for relapse or, in severe cases, death. This burden can be heavy for those of us professionals who form close therapeutic relationships with patients.
