Pros

Johns island is an idyllic place to work with unparalleled natural beauty. The campers are a joy to work with and the camp culture is very strong, with many returning campers. Provided food and shelter for the duration of employment is a nice bonus.

Cons

Low pay apart from the free meals, and as a sleepaway camp there is limited opportunity for time off. The biggest issue though was the staff culture. A large ratio of staff were former campers and treated their job as an opportunity to socialize and catch up with old friends. This resulted in some very unprofessional interactions between staff and a few staff members being ostracized and ganged up upon by other staff just because they didn't fit in. Working here felt like high school all over again.

Pros

This is hands down the kindest, most welcoming community in the world. The job is a lot, but very rewarding. The nature is unparalleled. Take the job!

Cons

There is very little free time, outside of the evenings. Time-off is really stressful- be sure you go with someone who has a car. Be prepared to camp illegally.
