Pros

co-workers were nice, property was nice. Not many pros.

Cons

CEV corporate managers do not respect their employees, especially the "Community Ambassadors". The CAs are usually college students who have to go to school simultaneously. They do not take that into account and work their CAs into the ground. CEV always rambles on about "CEV family" but they do not treat their employees with any sense of humanity. Front management office is always tied by the hands of the bigger ups in corporate, making it harder for us to do our job. And of course, the leasing office workers always get the brunt of students and parents' hostility due to what corporate says. Working as a CA, you have to live on site the property, and if you want to quit your job even after working 2+ years with the company, they still require you to live there because "you signed a lease." If you don't want to live there, they won't let you break your lease and they will make you responsible for finding someone else to take over your lease while paying the fees that go along with it. Instead of treating you like "family", they would rather keep their numbers at 100% at the expense of a college student's time and money. Wages and salaries are awful. The reason they don't give raises is because it's "in the budget." Who would think they don't have $1/ hr to spare when they're ripping off college students country wide. Moral of the story: don't work here. It's bureaucratic and the chain of command is awful. CEV treats its employees like crap.

Not the worst ever but the worst I've seen.

Pros

They pay really well and it's nice that each property has the same name.

Cons

No on-boarding, no support. No guidance. They expect things to happen magically. Benefits suck.

Pros

You have a lot of flexibility to try new things and see what works at your property. It is pretty much up to you to decide what works best. The short lived and former operations team was very supportive and willing to help solve a problem. Not “easy” on you, but was a great resource and made sure I had what I needed to succeed.

Cons

The NY office is the biggest downfall. Not a single person in the NY office knows what they are doing as it relates to student housing. They make irrational decisions with little to no knowledge of how their decisions can be implemented or will impact the property; as long as it “may” save money it makes them happy. The corporate marketing team means well, but they have no clue. The accounting team is overworked and doesn’t get anything done right. The CEO is high strung and weird. During my time here there have been lots of changes, the best change was bringing on knowledgeable people in the Charlotte office, the only issue is that they got rid of regional positions in order to do that. Now they’re bringing regional positions back and got rid of the operations leadership team in order to do that. I guess they can’t afford both at the same time. But they needed the operations leadership team; it made us all better because of the knowledge and competency. We no longer have anyone we can go to and get guidance on what to do. The rest of the Charlotte office is good, but their knowledge is limited. We moved a few steps forward only to move many steps back. Now we’re going through a merger and everything is up in the air.
