Pros

The pay is great for the work, experience required, etc. There are a lot of big personalities at CVP, but the majority of staff are extremely under-qualified for other political work that has similar salary potential, which speaks more about the pay than talent at CVP. Most employees are in undergrad when they're hired, completing grad school, or fresh out of school. The pay, on average, is amazing with that considered. They will also ask that you give them your salary requirements, which is normal, but most young people don't know how to handle that question if this is their first job. For most people who work at CVP, it is their first real job. So prepare a number with justification, because they won't give you more than you ask for. Look into average individual income where you live, and that's roughly what you should net before bonuses--not gross. Many people who work for CVP have second jobs, but on my way out they seemed to be cutting back on this. By staying in touch with former co-workers I know most staff who have been around awhile still have second jobs. This is mostly allowed because these staff members are well liked. If you can make that happen, this is a perfect opportunity for anyone. For most people who are ambitious and see a future in politics, you will be sacrificing opportunity for pay at CVP. If you're building a political career outside of CVP while working here, it's perfect place to work. If you are working here while in school, it's perfect place to work. If you're working here but see no future career in politics, it's perfect a perfect place to work.

Cons

A lot of people work for Turning Point or one of their subsidiaries, like CVP, to try to break into politics. This is not how you will do it if you desire a serious career. There are quicker and easier ways, and Turning Point and it's related organizations have burnt more bridges than they have built. My coworkers were all great, although there are multiple cliques, and it's hard to avoid that influencing the experience working at CVP. Fraternizing impacts the organization from bottom to top, and the promotions are earned exclusively through friendships with upper staff. There is also a low ceiling. It takes more time than usual to move up, and there aren't too many positions above entry level. There is a lot of immaturity and drama as well.
