Pros
Managers are generally flexible, excellent networking opportunities, depending on the department, pay can be fair. Wonderful location right off Michigan Ave near both metra and cta lines.
Cons
Once you have a position, it is impossible to move upward in the organization unless you are Canadian and work directly for DFAIT. Consular manager is a bit rough around the edges and as there are only two employees in that particular department, the consular assistant is oftentimes treated poorly without anyone else around to validate the treatment. Causes high stress not comparable to the pay.
