Pros

1. Family atmosphere 2. Access to the most beautiful animals in the world 😍 3. International feeling in a small town 4. Caring management team but the owners are amazing. They helped my family when no one else could and I am forever grateful 5. Great energy and activity plus opportunity for in-house hiring and growth in business and skills 6. On-site vet centre and crèche (so unique)

Cons

1. The pay isn’t great at the moment but they are in constant communication about it. This is not the norm however and tips made pre-Covid were great so hoping for it to improve 2. Long hours in season 3. Oudtshoorn is a small town but is close enough to drive to places with entertainment facilities etc. I personally loved the safety and community you feel in small towns but it’s not for everyone

Pros

- Working with a wide variety of beautiful exotic animals - Positive and strong conservation ethic - Meeting amazing people from all over the world. - Challenging environment that keeps you active. - Family environment where you feel important no matter your position. - Marketing for an animal conservation facility is very rewarding, feels good to put my skills to a worthwhile cause.

Cons

- Far away from major cities (but this is also a good thing if you prefer a quieter country life like I do). - Can be challenging dealing with people who are against conservation facilities. - Workload increases significantly over holiday period, but that's to be expected. - Salary seems low on paper, but living costs in Oudtshoorn are very low so that coupled with working with animals and interesting people evens it out.
