The company of wasted potential

Pros

My time at Captec taught me a lot of things. I feel I have come out of the other side a much more robust individual. I've learnt about business, and I've made great friends. None of these positive attributes though can be claimed by Captec as a company. My team mates were able to help me develop, the company just dragged me down.

Cons

Captec is slowly destroying itself. It's management team are stuffy, suffocating and lack direction or strategic vision. I honestly believe that most of their time is spent trying to dodge the MD and letting other departments take the fall as it keeps them out of his eye line. Their performances are based on "let's beat up who's doing the worst" rather than celebrating or motivating success. Most employees in the company range from unhappy to enraged. No one believes in a shared vision, no one wants the company to succeed because they don't want to further the careers of the managers who are consistently letting them down. The worst part is, the management team can't alter the business or culture for the better, as their opinions are invalid to the MD and Directors who ultimately decide everything and have no time for innovation if they can't see any commercial value, especially when it comes to people development. People are seen as assets, not as individuals. They make the company money, or they don't. No one ever performs high enough to exceed expectation and are frequently made public examples of when they make mistakes, through shouting, screaming and swearing for all to hear. This is why most of the management team has been replaced 2/3 times in the last 18 months and whole departments have broken down into nothing. It's a shame, and it's a waste. There are some strong, valuable and talented individuals who have walked into the doors of Captec. They have tried to develop themselves, offer their thoughts, work on their talents and weaknesses, but to no avail. All who are talented enough to leave, do. Those who stay do so out of loyalty or fear, not because they love their day to day.

Pros

I'd like to thank the management for showing me exactly HOW BAD a job can get. I will never hate a job that much ever again because its impossible to find a worse company to work for. See cons for further information....

Cons

Management are not well trained in manners and basic human and or employee rights. Long hours, no rewards. Negative working culture - no praise for good work but LOTS of stern words / shouting / swearing for mistakes. Staff are overworked and underpaid. Unrealistic targets set by management. There's no motivation if you're a captec employee, only a constant struggle to get up each morning. when I worked there, the company was about 90% male biased and the females were treated to a number of sexist remarks on a daily basis. Employees were hired on looks as opposed to knowledge and working background. I can tell you now....if you're a bright and cheery person now and you go on to work at captec, you will leave a miserable, soul-sucked victim (possibly on medication for depression / anxiety) and that's no exaggeration! Lastly, the company's products are nothing but trouble - faulty, prone to breaking....expensive. I'd imagine that it's very difficult to sell a product that you wouldn't want to recommend to anyone...poor sales team.

Pros

Some very nice but longsuffering people.

Cons

“A positive workplace culture leads to increased productivity, better employee morale and the ability to keep skilled workers. Negative attitudes in the workplace, particularly when they are displayed by management or the small business owner, can have a dramatic impact on the entire workforce. Taking the steps to ensure that a positive culture is present in the workplace will go a long way towards keeping your organisation running smoothly and keeping your employees happy.” Timely advice for a company so badly run that in my short employ 11 people left a workforce of less than 70. Would I recommend a career at Captec? Not if I was female, creative, resourceful, original, smart, of happy disposition, unable to deal with verbal abuse or being publicly humiliated. The propaganda supposedly promoting an amazing culture at this company is a joke.
