Pros

-Great Office with friendly, intelligent people always willing to help solve the latest problem. Open floor, low cubicle concept invites collaboration, and communication. -Approachable Senior Staff / Executive Team who enable staff to think creatively, voice their opinions and dont tend to micromanage unless necessary. -Fantastic Benefits ,including free snacks/ drinks, company holiday events, flexible time off, good health care .

Cons

Turnover- is higher than I would like to see company wide. Many of the engineering staff that wrote or worked heavily on the software lines have moved on. Refresh/ updates to our product lines are underway which can open up opportunities to new comers however. Communication-As with any growing company, cross functional communication gaps slow down progress lead to confusion. As the product lines we offer expanded it has becoming increasingly difficult to make certain everyone is working towards on common goal. Actions are being taken with the build up or our Program Management Team to break down these communication gaps but more action should be taken to get everyone working as a well oiled machine.

Pros

Nice, T accessible location for the office (downtown Boston) Best selection of free junk food of any place I've ever worked. Really, it was awesome.

Cons

I was developer; your experience may be different you're not in engineering. Carbonite had a decent number of good engineers. Unfortunately, it never really seemed like Carbonite valued them. People were always getting fired from engineering. There was continual pressure that we weren't getting enough done. In the new office, engineers got desks about half the size of everyone else ... that must have made sense to someone. I can remember a least one time when I had to have one of the laptops I was using on my lap because there was no space left on the desk for all the computers I needed to get my work done. I got really sick of Star Wars themed stuff, and you probably will too if you work there. I didn't get the impression upper management knew much about how software was developed. I mean, you do have to fire people sometimes, but a few timers there was like one person who understood how one part of the system worked and then suddenly they would be gone. There's mission critical code that no one owns and very few people understand. Lots and lots of people would get put into a side project that went no where, but the boring old code, that was actually making money for the company, was totally neglected. There were a lot of things that could have been done that would have allowed me to get my job done faster and more effectively, like refactoring some of the code, setting up better test environments, that sort of thing; pretty basic stuff, really. No one can get work done fast if a system they need to use is down half the time. Finally, I have never felt less valued or appreciated at any company I have ever worked for.

Pros

In my time at Carbonite, I have worked with some awesome, smart people. More than half have already left, the rest will soon follow. There are snacks - emotional binge eating is the best way to survive Yes, the compensation is high. How else would they retain anyone?

Cons

When I first came to Carbonite, I absolutely loved it. There was great energy, smart people and I really saw myself working there long term. Fast forward a few years, and I don't even recognize the company I left. The only people who get ahead, are people with very close personal relationships with the right Senior Staff. Gossip runs rampant. People will sell you out in a second if they believe it will somehow advance themselves. There is absolutely no sense of purpose in anything people are working on. There is no commitment or pride, people have stopped caring. You're lucky if 65% of the office shows up on a Friday. The way Carbonite fires or "lays off" people is incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. Everything they do is always morally questionable. Senior leadership is very clear - no individual person is special, everyone is replaceable. They'll hire a Director, then fire them two weeks later. They'll present a company-wide award to someone, lay them off the following month. If you have any issues, just deal with them yourself. There is no one you can talk to. They basically admit they see all the problems and low morale, but just don't know how to fix them. Their new move is to secretly interview candidates off-site, to have immediate replacements ready when they terminate someone. Keep it classy, Carbonite.
