Pros

* Free education opportunities * Good work hours for most * Beautiful and historic campus * Free perks and local discounts available to employees * Opportunities for organized community volunteerism * Some quality people working there who are passionate about helping students

Cons

* Salaries are not competitive - most departments are overworked and underpaid. * Political atmosphere - it's who you know not necessarily the quality of your work. * Inappropriate internal relationships that discourage employees from reporting critical personnel issues and concerns; nepotism prevalent. * Lack of transparency, direction, clear focus between interrelated departments and within some departments themselves. Each department has their own agenda; lack of teamwork mentality between departments which inhibits or greatly slows progress of innovative and forward thinking initiatives that would take the University into the future. * No career growth opportunities; no support for expanding career path (You do what you were hired to do and discouraged from branching out. You have to leave to grow in your career). * Most inept HR department encountered thus far in my career. Employees don't feel they have an avenue to raise concerns. Hard to get clear information. Mistrust among many employees of the dept. * Many innovative ideas from employees to propel the school into the future, but gross lack of support to put those ideas into action, resulting in stagnant and uninspired work environments. * Lack of leadership decisions. Everything is decided by committee but sometimes a decision needs to be made in order to move forward. Paralysis by analysis.

Pros

Nice colleagues and some good perks - free coffee and doughnuts, access to the gym, etc.

Cons

Staff is not respected and have no voice. Worked here over 8 years and the pay is low with no path for advancement. Input is constantly asked for but never taken into consideration.

Pros

Free coffee and donuts for faculty in the morning Generous funding for conferences and research trips

Cons

Very inbred place. When I was there, every department had hires of their own graduates, and some made room for their children and spouses as well. Carroll grads also fill a lot of staff slots. The result is a place that runs on anecdote rather than sound research. Programs are created using interviews conducted exclusively with their former graduates, who of course see expansion in their major as a form of self validation.
