Pros

Most of the people are friendly and hard working. Benefit's are above average and pay for non management staff is ok, not great.

Cons

This was once a fabulous energy filled place to work before Carson took over the Columbus office. Since 2009, upper management (so called leadership) has destroyed the Columbus office. This office was once filled with hard working talented people. Today, the office is practically empty. Coming to work each day is like going to a funeral parlor. What upper management did to the many good people who were laid off is so sad. One former colleague I know has been out of work for some time and is now having serious health problems due to the lay off. This person was a high quality talented person who did excellent work. Upper management lacks the skills needed to successfully run this company. There's an inner circle of people who can do no wrong and are never ever challenged. There are too many VP's and Directors who are simply not qualified. Some, with the title of director is a joke. Yes, the silos need to be destroyed but that will never happen under the present upper management personnel. I push myself each day to come to work.

A Good Stepping Stone

Pros

Two weeks for christmas vacation Pay was decent Some nice people but most of them have left. see below * Nancy has good Christmas Parties. If you get invited to that then you are cool. Kind of cool to say you work for a children's book publisher and see the products in book stores

Cons

The management is so disconnected from the employees. Al is a very nice guy and good CEO. I wouldn't say he's the problem. The rest of the upper management is so wrapped up in themselves. They don't care about you or what you say. They'll run you into the ground. Very fake so dont ever feel safe with your job. They'll promise you things and never follow through. The marketing department dropped from 16 people to 5 within a year. Mostly due to people leaving. They also did a huge firing sweep late 2015 and let go a lot of good people. Don't expect to move up within the company because that never happens. Wasn't absolutely miserable here but the shady things management does like hiding things from employees leaves you not wanting to stay for long term. very repetitive work. people get moved to positions they dont want to in order to cover for people who left. Its been the same management for years. The best thing this company can be used for is a stepping stone. Put in a few years and move on. Thats what everyone else does.

Pros

long holiday break from christmas to new years is nice good bonuses good work life balance

Cons

- same management for 15 years, just throwing the same bad ideas at the wall until hoping theyll stick this time - very political culture - micromanagement - distrust of employees, have to complete time/task tracking software to the minute or face reprimand
