Pros
The students are very sweet and loving and eager to learn once you get past the walls they put up because they're so used to teachers leaving and the learned helplessness and laziness they've acquired after years of bad teaching. The pay isn't bad for new teachers, but it drops off considerably for those with more than three years experience.
Cons
Micromanaging Administration; The impossibly high demands placed on you leave no room for work/life balance; Ridiculous push to use technology at all times -- even when it may be inappropriate; Backstabbing employees and a constant feeling of having a target on your back; Overall oppressive school environment with extremely low teacher morale and no real discipline or accountability for the students; NO CURRICULUM; Data rules the day, but data isn't viewed in context or even understood completely by those analyzing it; Very out of touch central admin and school board who care more about how things look on paper than the actual consequences of their decisions; Despite much lip service to all three, no actual teacher support in areas of discipline, curriculum or growth.
