Pros
- wholesome community of immigrant kids and families in the neighborhood - freedom to design your curriculum as you want, room for exploration - adequate budget for materials - gain experience quickly due to high number of participants - coworkers are kind and supportive
Cons
- isolated from other specialists and admin - inadequate working space (no breakroom, no working outlets, spotty wifi, noisy from kids) - embodiment of the nonprofit industrial complex (beware of false promises, emotional gaslighting, exploitation to fill in gaps due to underfunding, "all hands on deck" mentality, etc.) - predominantly white people in higher positions while people of color work in entry level positions serving kids of color (many of whom grow up to work for this org). it's just more white saviorism and exploitation with social group work games and weaponized therapy speech. - expect overtime without compensation
