Pros
Most of my time there was good, but it unraveled (see below). I had a good team and helped to mentor some younger staff into great jobs. Basically, it's a good place to hide out during republican administrations and a good place to tout liberal policy during dem ones. They claim to be bipartisan, but that's such a wink. The name of the org is 'progressive' without the "-ive".
Cons
I was completely overworked and underpaid, doing the job of an SVP without any support or supervision. Finally, against my advice and that of at least 1 other SVP, they desperately hired a complete buffoon to take over my division. I should have been happy, but this guy really didn't like me, and frequently called me a "b-word" to my face (yes, I'm a woman). I tried to make a lateral move within the org, but was rebuffed. Eventually I was fired from my job and replaced with one of his friends, who he claimed to not know. It was ugly. They forced me to sign an NDA to make sure that I didn't go around bashing them in order to get severance. Suffice to say, the document I signed did not stipulate that they couldn't bad mouth me. I still have problems getting jobs because people see CAP on my resume, call this guy or his buddy (off the record, natch), and they will happily trash me to potential employers. Caveat emptor.
