Pros
Potentially a good place to start a career. Put your two years in, then go to PSU or into one of the numerous healthcare providers. Do not be tempted by getting “vested” at 5 years, you are better off with a higher salary elsewhere.
Cons
Low pay. CCG recently had a salary study which took a year to complete, and gave a pittance raise to most employees. Long hours, expectation to work overtime without being paid overtime. Ex: work 10 hours one day, if there is a holiday that week you will not get OT, if you are PTO a different day you will not get OT. Or maybe your supervisor will want you to “flex” off 2 hours when it’s convenient for the department. On-call weekdays you get equivalent 1 hour pay to be on-call for ~16 hours. Weekends and holidays, 2 hours a day. Awful work/life balance. Try to take a break and get a call from your supervisor to respond to a crisis, so your breaks are not truly yours/off the clock, but you are not compensated for this. Most offices are chronically understaffed. If you’re good at your job, you get the honor to do someone else’s job, too. No stretch assignments, no career development. Woke trainings. I have not had a performance review in 5 years. Management cliques and low turnover in those positions; years ago CCG was a good place to work, and most department managers/administration have “silver handcuffs”, meaning they got longevity raises and promotions which are not available to new employees. These managers will never leave because they are paid well and could not find equal paying job elsewhere. Human services employees desperately need to unionize. Most employees are younger women entering the workforce and do not realize what a toxic workplace it is.
