Pros

Everyone here is incredibly intelligent

Cons

Long hours are EXPECTED - honestly, if you value weekends or evenings or some kind of life, do not apply here. You are EXPECTED to put in 65+ hours a week regularly. Poor pay. I did the math, and based on my salary and number of hours I was putting in, I was making about $7/hour - about minimum wage. Some of the SVPs are like high school students, they are catty, untrustworthy and just not pleasant to work with.

I know this review was from awhile ago but I would like to address your concerns. First of all, thank you for submitting your thoughts and I'm sorry that you felt this way about your experience with CMB. We pride ourselves on being able to provide a flexible, understanding and encouraging working environment for our employees. As a small professional services firm that works on a project basis, there are always going to be ebbs and flows in our hours worked. We expect and need all of our employees to contribute to the success of CMB on both an individual basis and, most importantly, as a team. However, being a small company, we are able to work more closely with the needs of our individual employees should any issues arise. We hope and encourage anyone that is having issues with managing their time or schedule to bring it up with his/her manager, or me in HR, so that we may address it and work with them to find a solution. I spoke to one of our current managers recently and she told me (unprompted) that the reason she has been here almost 15 years is because of the flexibility that CMB has provided her and her family and because of the opportunity to grow her career and skills. We believe that this is more of a common theme than not. -HR

Pros

Great company culture and people. Flexible working locations.

Cons

Extremely low pay and long hours. Benefits are not good, "free lunches once a month" is not a benefit. With current changes and frequent reorgs, employees are concerned about their careers at this company.

We appreciate your feedback although it is certainly hard to hear. We are glad that you recognize some of the advantages of the company like culture, people, and flexibility, but are sorry to see such poor evaluations of other areas. While it's clear you are discouraged, I am genuinely hopeful that you'll step forward to express your concerns with HR, your manager, or another member of the senior leadership team that you are comfortable with. We would value the opportunity to learn more specific details about your concerns and ideas for improvement. In the meantime, I promise that your review and concerns have been shared with senior leadership and are being carefully considered.

Pros

Co-workers are nice and take the jobs because they want to learn and grow, hours and working from home are flexible. Promotion is very feasible.

Cons

Learn very little unless you come straight out of undergrad. Lots of politics and conflict. Pay is not very competitive. Career options after CMB not great. Some people who are working there are just not cutting it and management does not manage them out.

Thank you for providing a review of CMB. I’m glad that you are encouraged by the ability to learn and grow, the flexibility of working here and the possibility of promotion. It is true that we hire many people to our Associate Researcher role straight out of undergrad and as a first job in their career, provide a lot of formal training. For most higher level positions, the training may not be as formalized as the AR program but is certainly there through a combination of outside seminars which we are often sending our employees to, peer mentoring as well as our recurring CMB University sessions that typically occur 3-4 times a month on average. We use “CMBUs” as a way to provide training and learning opportunities for all of our employees through successful case-study diagnosis, expert discussions and formal instruction presentations. We highly encourage employees at all levels to attend as many of these sessions as possible. If you don’t attend, then you may be missing out on impactful information and useful discussion. As far as pay is concerned, we are not a huge company (around 70 employees) so may not be able to provide everything that much larger companies have the ability to provide. However, we do believe we pay competitive total compensation with our profit sharing program and great benefits including significant company contributions to healthcare costs and 401(k) matching. We also have many employees that have gone on to very successful careers after their time with CMB. Our client base is a significant portion of the Fortune 500 so we hope that you would be able to develop good contacts and marketable skills.
