Pros

No one micro-manages your activities.

Cons

Despite lip service being paid to the so-called "Chartwell family", you are only as valuable as your current billing numbers and how much money you are making for the firm, regardless of how long you may have worked there, what courtroom successes you may have had, or how skilled you may be. The titular head of the firm believes that all attorneys are fungible and only looks to hire and retain mediocre attorneys, which perhaps explains why attorneys and staff are underpaid and the raises are significantly below market rate. If you want your career to be boiled down to just how much money you make for the firm and you have no desire to excel or be surrounded by the best, this is the place for you.

Pros

For the most part, you are not micro-managed.

Cons

While Chartwell pays lip service to the trope of the "Chartwell family", it in fact has no loyalty to its employees, and only values billable time, whether real or exaggerated, no matter how successful you may have been or how skilled you are. It is all about "what have you done for me lately". As a result, Chartwell pays well below market rates and believes its attorneys are all fungible. If you are looking for a firm that elevates mediocrity and takes advantage of its "family", this is the place for you.
