Pros

Meeting and working with people of many cultures. I think I loved it so much because this was a job I've always wanted Coming from a police family, I was pretty much born into it. It brought me out of my shyness, I had a awesome field training officer, which is extremely important,

Cons

Racial divide is still very much present and obvious. Lack of proper training is totally unfair to the newer officers. The refusal to allow us older more experienced officers come back and give the new recruits a full dose of reality is just plain stupid. The need to know the habits we've observed on the street can get them seriously injured or killed. They need culture awareness.

Pros

If you like having a real impact on people's lives this is the job for you. No two days are alike. The pay is good (unless you're getting shot at, spit upon, cursed, sued, or indicted). Great people to work with and lots of fun. Occasionally someone will say thank you.....that makes it all worthwhile.

Cons

....getting shot at, spit upon, sued, or indicted....you really can't understand it unless you've been there. The biggest con on this job is the total lack of support from the upper echelon within the department and the city officials
