Good cause, poorly run

Pros

The work is impactful and important. The company aims to help communities from the inside out via their proprietary software. The people who are doing the actual work are kind and generous. They repeatedly go above and beyond and produce incredible results for the clients.

Cons

A few things here: 1. There are some very big egos at this company within the leadership. This makes it very difficult to drive initiatives or really get many things done that will take the organization to the next level. 2. I don’t want to accuse the company of exploiting the team but when the expectation is to regularly work 12-15 hour days and you watch multiple team members work themselves to the bone (some having to take medical leave due to the stress and exhaustion) it’s hard to say they’re not being exploited. 3. Good luck getting anyone to adhere to a process or stick to a decision. Yes it’s a startup but even startups have some level of decision making and process. Here a ‘decision’ is made one day and the next it’s completely out the window. The downstream impact is that clients hear different things from different people and the lack of internal alignment causes frustration and extra work.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we take your observations seriously and appreciate the opportunity to learn from them. We deeply value our team and the effort, passion, creativity, and dedication that everyone brings each day. As a startup, we know the pace and level of change can feel challenging at times, and we continue to look for ways to improve how we work together; whether through communicating clearer decision-making, refining processes, or providing stronger support for our teams. We appreciate and value the incredible efforts of our team and make it a priority to celebrate their impact through our All Hands Moments of Gratitude and Chorus Kudos. We will continue to encourage our leaders to find ways to build more balance in workloads so there is space to both reset and celebrate successes. We encourage employees to bring forward their experiences during Leadership Office Hours so we can better understand what’s working and where we can improve. Thank you again for your candid feedback, it helps us learn and grow.

CEO needs self awareness

Pros

The mission is noble, but one must lead by example.

Cons

The CEO lacks business acumen and leadership skills. You can tell a company is “winging it” when it feels like the hiring priority was on HR and Marketing rather than financial leadership like a CFO or MBA/business. Just look at our staff page, every employee is listed there publicly. Maybe that's why we have the problems we currently face today. CEO seems to stay in his ivory tower, not really taking many questions or input directly. Not really interacting with regular employees. Makes decisions seemingly unilaterally since we dont know who is involved in these decisions. The frequency of layoffs every few months has been a hit to morale. A very absentee CEO. The company's internal culture does not seem to reflect the mental health values it sells to clients. CEO stays in his ivory tower, never taking any questions or input directly. Never bothers to interact with regular employees. Makes big executive decisions seemingly unilaterally. Firings every quarter (great for morale), asks the employees to find ways to save on costs as if that's our job. A very absentee CEO. Ironically, a psychiatrist starts a mental health company, yet does not prioritize the mental health, morale, and well being of his own employees.

Rude management

Pros

There are some kind, and incredibly hard-working employees there.

Cons

The key people I worked with in management were unhelpful, confusing, and straight up rude. Their actions were contradictory to the values they claimed to behold.
