Pros

Only the vending machine with free snacks is good says a lot about this place

Cons

High turnover rate. Messy processes. Long working hours and tough unrealistic work scope. An officer has to run leadership programmes and consultancy work and be a program mgt and event mgt person. Poor leadership bosses who are demanding and narcissistic. Over-engagement with stupid townhalls and check ins. Rather than talk review your processes. Toxic environment. Low progression.

Pros

- Location of the office is quite near to the MRT (which is quite ironically a pro factor)

Cons

- Management listens too much to the hear-says of the middle management & have very minimal interaction with working level. Information might have been magnified, undermined or misrepresented very easily - Rookies are mainly hired under 1 year contract and if you’ve “performed”, you will be emplaced. However, most of the performance reviews are not based on merits, it is - how well you “fit in the team’s culture”, how “well liked you are by the management”, whether you can present well. - Lack accountability for projects

Pros

Plenty of professional development opportunities given that CSC is a learning institute for all civil servants. Although the pay could be more competitive, I think this is more or less compensated for the abundance of staff training given in the organization. I recommend for fresh graduates to apply for a role in CSC for a 2-year exposure.

Cons

Turnover at the senior and middle management was high when I left the organization. New Admin Service officers (the "Scholars") could not wait to shake the boat and implement new initiatives to show their mettle in front of employees (the farmers). Office could have been less toxic without certain rank-and-file executives who may have been working for more than 10 years, doing the same roles, throwing their weight around, especially to freshies and new staff who maybe slight senior in position. Coming from the old school paradigm, these senior executives (likely to be their 40s-50s) have a lot of work to do to manage their egos when CSC has managed to attract promising, talented and young officers, to take on more strategic roles.
