Pros

- Plenty of wonderful coworkers. - All the perks that Apple employees enjoy: free commute options, great benefits, competitive pay, generous Apple stock grants. - The product makes a positive difference in millions of lives around the globe, so you can find meaning in your work if you look for it.

Cons

- Want a more accurate look at Claris culture? Search for FileMaker on Glassdoor to see honest reviews (Claris recently rebranded, but was previously known as FileMaker). - If you enjoy conflicting guidance, leadership who could seemingly care less about Apple's HR policies, and being bullied, this is the place for you. - If you're an open communicator who values trust, respect, and great collaboration, you won't find it here. Instead, sensitive personal information is often shared by "accident" in virtual meetings, while critical information about role changes, increased or decreased job requirements, and new hires is rarely communicated in a formal way. - You'll probably hear a lot of important information from your vendor partners well before you ever hear it from your leadership (if you hear it from leadership at all) - particularly in marketing. - Marketing specifically is filled with sycophants. For example, team members are expected to dance to music in daily team meetings. If they don't, they're often personally called out. Everyone is expected to smile and cheer for terrible ideas, even as Slack threads blow up with backchannel critiques. Ideas are only presented for praise (not feedback) once they're in their final stages. Managers may ask for feedback, but the expectation is that it will be positive. - The product itself is clunky and hard to use with poor UI.

Pros

Be part of Apple family.

Cons

The product too old and too heavy to move forward with new idea. The leadership team has no clear idea for the direction to move forward.

Lots of opportunities

Pros

During my time at Claris I had the opportunity to try many different things and grow in many ways. I was compensated well for what I did and felt like people valued my contributions. I think there's been a good deal of turnover but there were many long-time employees whom I loved working with.

Cons

Company goals and priorities can be confusing. Some of my work didn't get the exposure it deserved, and it finally was trashed for not performing when the public never really saw it. The company benefits and suffers from its relationship with Apple: it benefits because we get good engineers (and other people) who see Claris as a step towards other Apple employment. It suffers because Claris needs to operate in a more Agile way, but Apple legal and leadership can weigh things down. Claris internal leadership disagreements seem to prevent bold choices from being made as well. Still waiting for a truly cloud-based version of the platform.
