Pros

The firm is willing to hire recent college graduates with no prior industry experience, which is a great opportunity. Firm is on the small side, which keeps interactions a bit more casual and lighthearted. Pretty good benefits package. Good work/life balance if paired with the right legal staff.

Cons

Training can be informal, scattered, and incomplete. Supervisor not fully knowledgeable or aware of job functions and expectations from legal staff. Pay is far below industry standard. Complete lack of transparency on firm-wide decision making. Little to no opportunity for career advancement, and a lack of clear criteria for promotion/pay increase. Poor communication from leadership to support staff resulting in a work culture of rumors and gossip.

Pros

- Good PTO time (too busy and stressed to take it) - Working remote was nice - concert perks

Cons

I was on a PIP for over a year, I was given more work, responsibility, and under more scrutiny. Not once was my heavy workload questioned but I kept on getting more work and being told that I should be able to handle it. It kept on being extended because apparently I was improving Just enough. I moved on to another position within the company and two people are now doing the job I was supposed to be able to do on my own. HR made an excuse for this when I brought it up in my exit interview. HR and management come off as nice initially but they can't be trusted. They gaslight and don't actually care what employees say. Support staff supervisor is overworked, supervises too many people and I only really talked to her if I had a question or was in trouble. There were no regular check ins except for the yearly review. Policies and procedures were constantly changing. Right when you get used to something they have to go and change it up again to apparently help streamline everything. They hire a bunch of new support staff at once a few times a year but not many actually last. No idea if they actually know how to assist a legal staff member or not. Some of the partners are nice but are oblivious to the amount of work assistants do.

Pros

Good, nice people (except the partners) work here. Excellent support staff work. Free bagels every Monday.

Cons

Plenty. Low pay and business model that preys on broke Ph.Ds and postdocs with grinding work conditions. Insane legal staff turnover. Limited feedback and professional development beyond just patent law. Nepotism among legal staff.
