Toxic man-babies in leadership = high-conflict environment

Pros

* Lovely, passionate, knowledgeable, generous, and purpose-driven people * Four weeks’ vacation and five personal days to start * Well respected in industry * Blue-chip customers

Cons

If you’re considering a role with this organization, reach out to former employees on LinkedIn to ask them about their experience. Note patterns of short tenure when you’re looking for former employees and ask yourself why that would be. The environment is toxic once you’re beneath the facade. I wouldn’t work here if I had other reasonable options. * Incompetent leadership, lacking vision, focus, strategy, and capability. * Experienced talent are hired and then not listened to or empowered. * Pay is well below market and stock options are likely to be worthless. * Weak benefits package - although there are efforts to improve it with the recent addition of maternity / parental leave and LTD. Only 80% coverage. No RRSP matching. Very poor mental health coverage; only $500/year and doesn’t cover group therapy. * Awful, open plan office where attendance is monitored by CEO. You have to go in, just to sit there on Google meets that you could be on from home. * Basically zero on-boarding or training when you start. Very difficult to figure out what the company actually does and how it creates value for customers. * CEO is paranoid and untrusting. He treats people terribly; always looking to blame and complain. He lacks self-awareness. He talks negatively about employees at all levels of the organization behind their backs, makes passive aggressive comments to their faces, and he’s generally hated. There is no psychological safety whatsoever.

Pros

Great people and interesting sector

Cons

Toxic and dysfunctional working environment created by factors such as: - CEO is not an experienced or effective leader. He has a lack of respect for employees, which leads to a lack of empowerment for senior leaders and middle managers. Personal attacks are common, both in company meetings and through comments to other staff. Too focused on micromanaging, arguing on LinkedIn, and taking office attendance, neglecting responsibilities like setting high-level goals. - Turnover is high, particularly in more senior roles. High quality VPs and directors have been driven out by a lack of autonomy and trust. VPs, directors, managers, and analysts alike are not trusted to make decisions, and there is no clear chain of communication for priorities and tasks. - No clear strategy or objectives, both at a company and departmental level. Decisions are reactive with no clear strategy or rationale, which leads to low-quality product roll outs and high levels of stress for employees. - Promotions and raises are decided based who is most liked by the CEO / other senior leaders, rather than performance. No consistent pay grade, career development, performance review, or compensation/promotion policies. Colleagues often report being hired for one role and end up in a role unaligned with their expertise or interests. - Pay and benefits are uncompetitive. No RRSP matching, and employees are shamed for asking for higher pay, rather than being provided actionable next steps for career development. - Attendance to office is strictly monitored and not universally applied. Working long hours is encouraged and praised, and tasks are assigned without consideration of how it may impact workload. Overall low morale and a lack of supportive or safe culture. Anybody considering a role with ClearBlue Markets should look at the reviews that have been voted most helpful, reach out to previous employees, and be wary of the reviews written in a short space of time in June 2024.

Pros

very supportive and friendly team (though that likely a symptom of bonding through shared trauma so to speak). Promising and interesting industry and wide range of clients and lots to learn. Respected company within industry. If you enjoy hands on executive management, being told exactly what to do and how, and don't mind operating under a lack of proper planning, this is the place for you. You could be promoted relatively fast due to turnover if that is what interests you.

Cons

Toxic environment created by micromanagement and delusions of grandeur from CEO. This is exacerbated by the lack of authority given to other senior leaders (or lack of desire). Rest assured that decent average rating shown by glass door is inflated by the easy to spot and recent "amazing place to work" reviews, likely from the CEO himself and others he has asked to write. Active monitoring of this page and arguing on LinkedIn are likely frequent when not worrying about who is in the office on any given day. It's possible some positive posts genuine but it's strongly recommended to reach out to former and current employees for an honest view. Weak benefit packages, lack of proper professional development, and scrutiny of the carbon markets industry are other reasons to avoid this company.
