Lack of culture and constant layoffs

Pros

Salary is good, and that's probably why they still can hire people

Cons

Company has no centralized culture, every time management changes the cultures also does. In one year two massive layoffs happened, but they keep hiring anyway. During onboarding the training is weak and still they demand a super fast ramp up period expecting you to be a top performer in one month giving you loads of work making it impossible you complete the basic training sessions. Transparency just doesn't exist: lots of people that were affected by layoffs or fired were not expecting, there is no feedback culture and PIP program is just a disguise. They only hire contractors so they can fire everyone they want for professional or personal reasons, people are completely disposable in this company and they have absolutely no commitment with employee's life and professional growth.

Pros

Some very talented, skilled and experienced people are employed at CloudTalk and it's always great to work with them and learn new things. Some of the benefits are nice.

Cons

- Questionable company culture. CT acts like there are great relations between everyone during interviews, but the truth is, the relations are often pretty bad, lots of pointless drama, lots of distrust between individual people and teams, etc. Not necessarily the fault of the employees though, but a result of a change from a startup into more corporation-styled company that didn't quite work out in my opinion. - Very little to no communication between the leadership and employees regarding crucial topics such as goals, current status, etc., and the information provided tends to change rapidly.
 - Some departments exist in a bubble, isolated from the rest of the company and the clients, leads to decisions and changes that anger clients and result in them leaving. There were multiple instances of some departments repeatedly making the same mistakes, making plans to change the workflow, then failing to do so, and again making the same mistakes, basically going around in circles.

- Responsibilities of several departments are still fairly unclear and the requests for clarification are often met with a shrug as a response.

 - Lack of direction. As mentioned, the little information provided by leadership tends to change randomly and quickly. The same applies to a lot of the decisions made. Feels like someone is just flailing around in the dark, not knowing what to do. Same goes for the product, which is still largely just a bunch of random ideas put together with glue and prayers and not very stable as a result.

 - Getting access to tools you are supposed to use generally takes weeks, but often times months. Sometimes, you can lose this access with no warning or explanation and have to go through the whole waiting process again. As an example, I lost access to one tool in spring 2022, no explanation, nobody admitted to deleting my access, etc. It took more than 6 months for me to get it back, while sending repeated reminders to the people involved.

 - Internal documentation and trainings are often very limited. Although this has improved somewhat in the last couple months, there’s still a lot of information missing from the internal docs or they are unfinished. Trainings are also often very limited in scope, and they also tend to happen with a delay (or not at all) when significant changes are made and re-training should be done.

Pros

Good salary, good work/life balance, 100% remote, but that's about it

Cons

The engineering leadership is the worst I've ever experienced. They keep gaslighting you until you start doubting yourself, which unfortunately can have a long lasting effect on mental health. Some of the leaders are just plain toxic, which makes it for an exceptionally bad environment to be in. Constant layoffs also destroy team morale and give no sense of job security, so I would not recommend if you value your career and mental health

Hi, Thank you for sharing your experience. I see that while some of the basics were right, we unfortunately didn't manage to create an overall good experience at CloudTalk for you - and I'm sorry for this. In terms of the Engineering leadership, we have experienced & capable managers heading up our teams. We regularly conduct team health checks, 360 degree fedbacks and regularly measure the employee Net Promoter Score, which has been stable so far in 2024. In terms of job security, while we don't guarantee it the way a large corporation would, we focus on creating an engaging, fast-growing environment for our top performers and building a culture of ownership & responsible spending to ensure we're scaling the company efficiently. Again, I am sorry to hear that we did not succeed in creating the right environment for you. I am grateful for your feedback, as it will help us better reflect on what we can improve moving forward.
