Pros

Dating company that is well funded and has some momentum with about 30 or so employees

Cons

They are conducting fake interviews and trying to pick on the brain of candidates - this sucks.

We're so sorry you had a less-than stellar experience at our office for your interview! We certainly do not hold fake interviews, and would never deliberately waste anyone's time to "pick the brain" of our candidates. Your ideas are just that--your ideas. We hold regular user studies with non-subscribers at our office. We also have an amazing staff with brains full of unique ideas and truly outstanding insight. The intent of our interviews is to grow our team and add fresh perspectives. Please feel free to reach out if you feel your interview was unjust :( -The CMB Team

Nice people, but reactionary and directionless

Pros

The people here are really, really nice. You will enjoy the personalities and the kindness in the office. There is a ton of access. The office is remote friendly, so you can work from ANYWHERE. People have a mission and believe in it.

Cons

People might be too nice and deferential. Things move slower than you'd expect at a 40 person company. There is a ton of tech debt and alignment can be super slow. We also seem to unite around a bit idea, try it out, then scatter to something else when it doesn't seem like it worked. Something will happen and everyone will react rather than staying the course. As a result, it never felt like this company was going anywhere, despite the strong desire to build a great customer first product. Definitely a place where execution greatly lags ideals. Also, as previous reviewers have noted, there are a lot of knee jerk decisions that get made, particularly with people and those aren't always handled well or professionally.

Not what it used to be

Pros

* people are friendly and generally nice. People do tend to care for one another * lot of exposure to senior leadership. They do make time and hear you out. * new office is nice and Hayes Valley is great * work/life balance is solid

Cons

* Company is complacent. It takes forever to get ideas moving and to ship new features. The features we ship tend to be very similar to those that other dating apps have had for years. People seem to be happy here and have kind of settled in. Management keeps talking about differentiation, but we keep shipping stuff that makes us more like everyone else. * Lots of turnover. It seems like 2019 was a rough year for turnover. We lost a lot of really good people and it was often unexpected. At times, people seemed to disappear with no notice or warning. Some employees were let go with little consideration for how their exit would affect other teams and people, so we were left scrambling to cover. Really poor planning and management here. * People management is really spotty. The company tries to be good about people management, but there are not a ton of experienced people managers and the company is too small for people to put real time into it. * Pay is pretty low relative to other places. Perks are pretty spartan, * company lacks vision. It seems like leadership changes how they organize the company based on the latest management books someone read. It can feel like the leadership listens to their friends in other companies more than the people inside CMB.
