      Poor management and a patronising environment

      Pros

      A lot of the staff weren't particularly friendly or welcoming and I felt quite often patronised and undermined. I also received a lot of undermining comments about my age. The management seems to thrive off treating their staff like children with some draconian rules, e.g. I was told off for messaging a family member that I was going to finish late as I was working past my contracted hours. When I resigned, my manager asked for feedback and I supplied it to her. She gave a short, dismissive and rude response, failing to address any of the issues I had mentioned. They have a notice in the staff room stating that if you fail to clock in/out then you won't get paid. If you do forget to clock in/out, then it is an employer's responsibility to determine your hours worked. They absolutely cannot withhold your pay.

      Thanks for the feedback. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your short time with us. I wanted to pick up on your point about the notice. This was purely to encourage our teams to remember to clock in and out. We require that information to process payroll. Having only been with us for around 2 weeks, you may not have been aware but if any clockings are missed or if any errors are made by either party, we of course rectify this as soon as possible. We absolutely would not and could not withhold any pay for hours worked. Our teams are everything to us. We value their voice and have channels that allow any questions or concerns to be raised. I believe that following your resignation you had numerous communications with our MD, during which the points that you raised were addressed. As a relatively new business we are all about continuous improvement and happily take on board feedback when it is provided. Once again, I am sorry that you did not feel that this role was for you.       The people you work with are lovely, but senior management ruin it

      Pros

      Team of Baristas and Store Manager are collegiate, friendly, and considerate of one another. Free coffee, 50% off food on shift. Raise money for guide dogs uk.

      Cons

      The standard of work expected is not proportionate to the wages. Head Office staff micromanage and make staff uncomfortable when theyre around Cafe open 7 days a week.

      Useless Management Causing Incredibly High Turnover

      Customers can be very friendly

      Cons

      Nasty leadership at this company. Firstly, they have unfair expectations on working patterns and expect you to be on call 24/7 and don't pay you for it. They will also make you come into work last minute, change your shifts without telling you and there is a complete lack of support from above store level management. There is a very high turnover at every store and the reason for this is senior management. They also pay well below the average (comparing Costa's wages for example, who are the market leader). Avoid working for this company and do not believe their friendly aesthetic.
