Pros

The salaries are ok for the area (Witham), although bad for london.

Cons

Challenging management on anything will likely see you black listed as a trouble maker. To get promoted in this company you it's American style sucking up and protecting your self at all costs - don't worry if you're actually adding value. Most managers jobs are very self serving, simply to enhance their own reputation than to actually add anything to the service to the companies customers. Many people are depressed and repressed working here. I've worked for larger financial institutions where there is vastly more communication between employees and leaders. Many team leaders / managers lack even the most basic skills is motivating and engaging their staff. A number of senior managers behavior can be wholly inappropriate (name calling / shouting / aggressiveness / fist banging), and would never be allowed to occur at company with any kind of self respect.

Pros

Some talent around and good to build skillset and knowledge. Quite social at times and good team events. Good for first job.

Cons

Unprogressive environment and values from senior staff. You will be lucky to get a nice manager. L&G are not very open to change and refuse to invest anymore into cofunds. Witham is also a dive.

A depressing place to work

Pros

To get a financial services company on your CV. The dev team at least tries to operate in an up to date manner. Some of the great people I met that left as equally fast from their dead end roles.

Cons

The company was a terrible place to work from the start, from the London office facilities through to the attitude of some of the longer serving staff. It is like the graveyard for people that had given up on their career and settled on a job for life. New ideas are frowned upon as the staff has worked there 10 years and simply want to show up, get paid and go home at 5pm doing the same thing day in day out. None of the older staff are interested in furthering their skills or career or building a cv. The company has a 2 day website downtime at weekends as the IT Operations staff have weekend double time written into their contracts so they don't want to lose the 4 pay outs of the year for the 4 releases they manage by automating what they do. The test team can't write automated tests and they operate a scrumafall delivery cycle that just doesn't work.
