Pros

Enormous pool of talent, if they can keep them. It's Coleman Camping. The history alone is fascinating. Tenured Kansas associates have so much knowledge and empathize.

Cons

Constant fear of being fired. The CEO and CFO have reputations for screaming and belittling employees. No reward for increased productivity.Witness people being thrown under the bus daily. When is enough, enough?

Pros

The brand is legendary, the products are fun, it's a relaxed place to work, people genuinely take pride in their work. A solid core of long-term employees that are committed to the company.

Cons

The facts: after the Coleman familiy sold the company, there's been a vast string of owners and CEOs, and a changing cast of characters in senior management roles. Therefore, no one has achieved any real traction on long-term strategy, developing a culture & infrastructure that supports linnovation, and taking the brand to the next level. The organization is over-managed and under-led. If you're thinking about taking a job in Golden, CO with Coleman -- do your research and learn that it's been done unsuccessfully before and ask about the tenure of the previous CEOs, SVPs of Marketing and HR. Understand that in about 2-3 years, another layer of senior leadership will be hired to replace the previous one (with even higher salaries) to "revitalize" the organization. Meanwhile middle management stagnates - skills grow rusty and they're content with under-market salaries and awaiting the next regime. It's been the predominant pattern at Coleman for the last 12 years.
