Pros

Colonial Life offers a great supplemental insurance product to businesses and the company has an encouraging culture in place.

Cons

If you have your resume out on the job-seeking websites, and are contacted by Colonial Life for an interview, don't waste your time. The job is 100% commission and you are responsible for paying for your own online training and insurance license fees. They prefer hiring people who have never sold insurance before so they can more easily sell their illusion on what it takes to be successful. They will try to sell you on the idea that for every 100 business calls made, you will set up at least one face-to-face meeting with a decision-maker to present our products, and that for every four meetings, you will close at least one sale. Wrong. We had a talented team that ran approximately 50 decision-maker meetings and closed only one sale. All the while you are using your own gas and mileage to be out in the field three days a week contacting and meeting with businesses. What management fails to tell people who are new is how important a role insurance brokers play in doing our jobs. Most businesses you will meet with have a broker in place who will shoot down your product because the broker is not getting credit for the sale. And if you go out and try to partner with brokers in the market to gain sales, they will not work with you because you are new and not proven. I have never worked a job where I lost money until now. Glad I got out when I did.

Pros

There really were not any.

Cons

They had us using out personal phones basically going down the phone book calling people with small businesses trying to get them to sign up, they would give us lists of areas and businesses they know that they have already marketed to a million times, and you would go months without making a profit. I quit my job of 3 years and relocated to work there after being told I would be salaried for $60k a year only to find out after I moved 200 miles away and quit my job that itvwas commission only.
