Pros

At first, exposure to complex projects, in-depth strategic approaches, smart clients and challenging work. When things are going well, produces solid results and you can be proud of your work there. The flexibility to work from home a few days a week is a huge plus.

Cons

Extreme favoritism, clique-ish, like "mean girls" only older. Inside buddies get everything, everyone else is spied on by them and paid less, given less benefits, etc (you are not allowed to discuss, but truth wins out). If you are not among the anointed few, you are screwed, basically. Smart people but cannot manage others, have no clue about what inspires, and is great at killing morale. Should be great place to be, but extremely volatile personalities make it unpredictable and unnecessarily stressful.

I would not recommend a friend - or an enemy - to work here

Pros

I met like 3 pretty great people (non-management) who were amazing. Some are still with the company, others not. For those who are still there....good luck.

Cons

It's a shame I am writing this review. I'm only writing this long overdue review because I wish someone had told me these things prior to hiring. And in full disclosure, I did NOT contribute the previous reviews. I guarantee MANY previous employees had less-than-glowing experiences at Comblu. The previous reviews accurately describe the culture of this company. I don't disagree with anything. This company is volatile and hostile to the extreme. Even the most minor, mundane issues because 5-alarm fires. Upon interviewing, they asked if I had a thick skin. That should have been my first warning. Thick skin is required for professional criticism, but their criticisms border on verbal and emotional abuse. I've had several jobs in before and after Comblu and I was never treated in such a manner. No one deserves that kind of treatment, professionally or otherwise. I worked there as a young professional, and this is not an encouraging or inspiring workplace where you can develop your skills and realize your potential. Instead, it's a place where you are constantly put down for even the slightest mistake, and with poor communication and unclear direction from upper management, employees are constantly set up for failure. The lack of internal communication is beyond ironic and even comical because this is a communication firm. Upper management never accepts their mistakes or accountability for their errors and anyone below has to bear the burden. I think it's also important to note this is a small, family-run business. Nepotism is blatantly evident, and professionalism lacks (or is non-existent) due to these causal and familiar relationships. Comblu was formerly HLB Communications, which does not have stellar reviews on Glassdoor either. If you are considering this company for employment, do your research and heed our warnings.

Pros

Overtime pay is about the only pro, until you get hired full-time--then it ends.

Cons

The CEO (Kathy)--is the worst manager in Chicago, repetitive work, no room for growth, terrible training, out-dated perspectives, no creative capabilities, hostile work environment, etc.
